The Deerfield Spartans lost against the Elkhart Wildcats last Friday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Deerfield fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 51-48. Deerfield has struggled against the Wildcats recently, as their match on Thursday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Deerfield had strong showings from Cristian Botello, who scored 18 points along with six assists, and Michael Lira, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds. It was the first time this season that Botello scored 15 or more points.
Deerfield's loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Elkhart, their win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-8.
Deerfield will be playing at home against the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Elkhart, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th.
