The Casa Grande Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their third straight loss. They took a 59-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of Higley. While losing is never fun, Casa Grande can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 183rd, while Higley is ranked 30th).
When it comes to explaining why Casa Grande lost, one person who can't be blamed is Tayven Williams. Despite the final result, he scored 22 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Phinneas Linehan, who scored five points.
Higley was led to victory by Luke Haugo and Noah Gloor. Haugo dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds, while Gloor scored 23 points along with seven assists. That's the first time this season that Haugo pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Donovan Dabney, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Casa Grande has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. As for Higley, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Casa Grande will take on Casteel at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Higley, they will be playing at home against Williams Field at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Williams Field is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
