The Metro Tech Knights will head out on the road to face off against the Browne Bruins at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Metro Tech focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Thursday.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up seven more assists than your opponent, a fact Metro Tech proved. They walked away with a 57-44 victory over Maryvale. Given Metro Tech's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while Maryvale is ranked 200th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Metro Tech's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Yaritzi Layva, who scored 15 points along with 6 assists and 5 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Layva has scored at least 25% of Metro Tech's points. Alaris Ozuna was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Browne, who are still winless after their fifth match. They were outmatched by Mountain Ridge on the road and fell 67-14. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Browne in their matchups with Mountain Ridge: they've now lost four in a row.
Metro Tech's win lifted them to 4-1 while Maryvale's loss dropped them down to 0-2.
Everything came up roses for Metro Tech against Browne in their previous matchup two weeks ago as the team secured a 49-15 win. Will Metro Tech repeat their success, or does Browne have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
