Monticello hadn't done well against North Summit recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Buckaroo were the clear victors by a 19-3 margin over the Braves. Considering the Buckaroo have won seven matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Jackson Keyes made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Keyes was even better at the plate, going 5-for-6 with one home run, six RBI, and two doubles. Monticello is undefeated when Keyes posts three or more RBI, but 6-8 otherwise.
In other batting news, Kooper Nielson was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Arturo Guiterrez, who went 2-for-5 with four runs and two stolen bases.
Monticello was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .405. They are 6-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Monticello now has a winning record of 9-8. As for North Summit, they are on a 15-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-19.
