A well-balanced attack led the Jarrell Cougars over the Lago Vista Vikings in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Jarrell put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 52-31 win. Given Jarrell's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 388th, while the Vikings are ranked 891st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jarrell found their leader in underclassman Aniya Taylor, who scored 22 points along with six steals. Taylor hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Lamyre' Fitch was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Despite the loss, Lago Vista had strong showings from Eliana Helton, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds, and Saylor Stamos, who scored nine points along with five rebounds.
Jarrell has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-11 record this season. As for Lago Vista, their defeat was their eighth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 10-19.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Jarrell will take on the Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Burnet comes in on eight and the Cougars on three. As for Lago Vista, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on February 2nd. Marble Falls is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
