East St. Louis was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Belleville West. The Flyers came in at 23 in the state poll after placing at number 33 last week.
East moved up to 116 from 145 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Southwestern. The Lancers were able to move up by topping O'Fallon 17-14.
East St. Louis' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Dominic Nelson threw for 232 and 2 touchdowns and Jeff Thomas had 158 yards receiving. On the ground Gregory Taylor contributed 260 yards. Treevon Prater helped East St. Louis' passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 47 yards.
Darren Sunkett's team's dynamic duo of Nelson and Thomas proved tough for the Maroons to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Prater helped East St. Louis' passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 47 yards.
Taylor was a passing and rushing force as the Flyers defeated Belleville West. Taylor's favorite target this week was Thomas, who caught 5 passes for 158 yards.
Taylor was a force in the backfield as East St. Louis bested Cameron Pettus' team.
O'Fallon's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Panthers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Camden Bauer has thrown for 1,551 yards and 14 touchdowns this season, while Tae'mon Franklin has 38 catches for 650 yards.
The Panthers' Kentrail Moran is a mere 84 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. Moran has rushed for 916 yards on 179 carries so far this year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Edwardsville takes on East. As it stands, the Tigers are in first, while Tim Funk's team is in fifth.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Edwardsville beat the Warriors 55-7. The victory was the eighth in a row for the team.
