Softball Recap: Harrison Central Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

Harrison Central had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 16-6 margin over the Cambridge Bobcats. The Huskies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.

Mikayla Pelegreen made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kelsey Powers, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Olivia Tonkovich was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and five RBI.

Harrison Central's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Cambridge, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.

Harrison Central will square off against Indian Creek at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Huskies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Redskins have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season.
