Great Crossing will take on the Corbin Redhounds at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Great Crossing will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak.
On Monday, Great Crossing had just enough and edged out Franklin County 4-2.
Landen Walters tossed a big game, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
At the plate, Chase Little and Cooper Duvall did most of the damage at the plate: Little went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Duvall went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Brenton Alcorn, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Corbin can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 17-2 margin over Model. The result was nothing new for the Redhounds, who have now won ten games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Kade Elam made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Corbin: the team is 9-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 9-11 otherwise.
In other batting news, Corbin got a massive performance out of Trey Person, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Cam Estep was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
Corbin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Model only posted an OBP of .235.
Great Crossing pushed their record up to 13-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Corbin, their victory bumped their record up to 18-12.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Great Crossing hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. However, it's not like Corbin struggles in that department as they've averaged .353. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Great Crossing couldn't quite get it done against Corbin when the teams last played back in March of 2024 as they fell 5-2. Can Great Crossing avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
