If the Chico Panthers were feeling good off their 82-60 takedown of the River Valley Falcons on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Chico took a 73-69 hit to the loss column at the hands of Washington. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Chico came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 190th, while Washington is ranked 404th).
Several Panthers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Adam Brott, who scored 26 points along with 8 assists and 5 rebounds. Brott scored a full 37.7% of Chico's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Magnus Nielsen was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Chico's loss dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Washington, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chico will take on Woodcreek at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Woodcreek knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully Chico likes a good challenge. As for Washington, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Gunderson at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday.
