The Dell City Cougars lost against the Van Horn Eagles on January 3rd, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Dell City was dealt a 60-32 loss at the hands of the Eagles. Dell City was down 45-22 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Reyes Espinoza, who scored nine points along with four steals. Espinoza is crushing the steal category: he's posted at least three every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Eli Tate, who scored 12 points.
Leading Van Horn to victory were Gio Corralez and Joey Anchondo. Corralez scored 21 points, while Anchondo scored 19 points along with six rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Anchondo has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Orlando Zamora, who scored four points.
Dell City has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. As for Van Horn, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 18-8.
Dell City's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Roadrunners at 5:30 p.m. on January 30th. Big Bend is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. Van Horn will take on the Bears at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
