Merritt Island hasn't had much luck against Viera recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Merritt Island will take on Viera at 6:00 p.m. Merritt Island is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Merritt Island picked up another tournament win on Saturday. They put the hurt on Lake Weir with a sharp 12-2 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.
Rindi Amos made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI.

Merritt Island always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Viera had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They came out on top against the Lions by a score of 6-1.
Riley Makousky spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Elaina Snyder, who scored a run while going 3-for-4. Tori Berry also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Viera's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Merritt Island, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Merritt Island has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .449. However, it's not like Viera struggles in that department as they've averaged .476. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Merritt Island couldn't quite get it done against Viera when the teams last played on March 12th as they fell 7-2. Can Merritt Island avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
