Basketball Recap: Mid-Peninsula Takes a Loss

Mid-Peninsula was the 62-49 winner over Mountain View Academy when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Mid-Peninsula Dragons took a hard 72-58 fall against the Mountain View Academy Mustangs on Tuesday. The Dragons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Mid-Peninsula saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Oliver Carpenter almost dropped a triple-double on 30 points, nine rebounds, and nine steals. Those nine boards gave Carpenter a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Michael Latour, who posted 11 points.

Even though they lost, Mid-Peninsula smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mountain View Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Christopher Mercado, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Daniel Malo, who had 18 points in addition to seven assists and six steals.

Mid-Peninsula now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Mountain View Academy, the win keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Mid-Peninsula has already played their next game, a 63-40 victory against KIPP Esperanza on the 9th. As for Mountain View Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 56-16 win against San Francisco Christian on the 8th.
