After flying high against the Jeff Davis Yellowjackets last Tuesday, the Telfair County Trojans came back down to earth. Telfair County fell 63-52 to Mary Persons on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, Telfair County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 424th, while Mary Persons is ranked 121st).
Despite the loss, Telfair County still got an impressive performance from Zah'Mya McDuffie, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and five steals. McDuffie scored a full 36.5% of Telfair County's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Samantha Marshall, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds.
Even though they lost, Telfair County were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Quanesha Brown continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Mary Persons, scoring 26 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Brown continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Zaria Wilson, who scored 17 points along with four steals.
Telfair County's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Mary Persons, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-2.
