The Southampton Academy Raiders lost against the StoneBridge Cavaliers back in February, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Southampton Academy fell 50-40 to StoneBridge. While losing is never fun, Southampton Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 266th, while StoneBridge is ranked 103rd).
Despite the defeat, Southampton Academy saw an underclassman step up: G Applewhite dropped a double-double on 21 points and 17 rebounds. Applewhite scored a full 52.5% of Southampton Academy's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was A Darden , who scored 10 points along with 5 rebounds.
Southampton Academy now has a losing record at 1-2. As for StoneBridge, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southampton Academy has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Rock Church at 6:15 p.m. on November 30th. StoneBridge will take on Hampton Roads Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
