Grundy County/Newtown-Harris is 4-0 against Tri-County since December of 2022, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. Having just played yesterday, the Grundy County/Newtown-Harris Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Tri-County Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. on February 13th. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Grundy County/Newtown-Harris has 11 straight wins, Tri-County has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Monday, Grundy County/Newtown-Harris didn't have too much trouble with Mercer on the road as they won 57-42. Given Grundy County/Newtown-Harris' advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 156th, while Mercer is ranked 379th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Corbin Axtell, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists. He hasn't dropped below three steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Zack Cross, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
Meanwhile, Tri-County came up short against Winston last Tuesday and fell 52-42.
Grundy County/Newtown-Harris is on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-3 record this season. As for Tri-County, they have not been sharp recently as the team has lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season.
Grundy County/Newtown-Harris took their win against Tri-County in their previous matchup last Saturday by a conclusive 71-49. The rematch might be a little tougher for Grundy County/Newtown-Harris since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
