Oak Grove is 9-1 against Central Davidson since December of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Oak Grove Grizzlies will head out on the road to face off against the Central Davidson Spartans at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Oak Grove waltzed into their game on Wednesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They breezed by Wheatmore on the road to the tune of 65-35. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 40-18.
It was another big night for Trista Charles, who shot 5-for-7 from long range and dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. She continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cora Hadley, who scored ten points along with four steals.
Central Davidson posted their biggest win since December 6, 2023 on Wednesday. They blew past Asheboro 61-27 on the road. Given Central Davidson's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 149th, while Asheboro is ranked 428th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Central Davidson's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Raegan McCarn, who scored 17 points. Carlee Shoaf was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with two steals.
Oak Grove pushed their record up to 13-2 with that win, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Central Davidson, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Oak Grove hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 61.8 points per game. It's a different story for Central Davidson, though, as they've been averaging only 50.8 points per game. The only thing between Oak Grove and another offensive beatdown is Central Davidson. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Everything went Oak Grove's way against Central Davidson when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as Oak Grove made off with a 62-39 victory. Does Oak Grove have another victory up their sleeve, or will Central Davidson turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
