Katelan Redmon committed to play basketball for the University of Washington in the fall for coach June Daughtery.
With Daughtery gone after being fired by Washington in March, Redmon, who led the Lewis and Clark Tigers to back-to-back Class 4A state titles, has asked to be released from her letter of intent.
The speculation is that Redmon wants to follow Daughtery to nearby Washington State, where she was hired last month.
Redmon, who received offers to 20 colleges, said that's not necessarily the case.
"If I decided to leave, it opens up tons of options," Redmon told the Associated Press. "I could basically do whatever I needed to do."
Either way, the Redmon family doesn't expect it to be easy.
"I think it's going to be a battle," Chuck Redmon told the AP. "I don't think it will come very easily."
Track and Field: Big Performances at Shoreline Invite
Seattle Prep's Max O'Donoghue-McDonald said he was tired before the race, but he didn't look it. The Washington-bound distance runner ran the fastest 3,200 the state has seen in two years to win at the Shoreline Invitational.
The defending Class 3A state cross country champ ran it in a meet-record time of eight minutes, 59.73 seconds.
"I came into the race kind of tired," O'Donoghue-McDonald told the Seattle Times. "All the people around were cheering like crazy so that really helped me keep pushing around in the sixth and seventh laps because that's where it hurts the most. I just gave it all my legs had."
While the 3,200 stole the show, the 100 was the most anticipated race of the day, with three runners in the field capable of running under 10.90.
Evergreen's Ryan Hamilton won the race 10.71, edging Highline's Marlon Murray (10.81) and Decatur's Ezra John Griffey (10.89).
Baseball: Two Inside-the-Park Homers in One Inning
Andy Chriscaden hit two inside-the-park home runs in the sixth inning to lead Monroe over Oak Harbor, 16-5, in WesCo action.
Chriscaden hit two bombs over the centerfielder's head. The first was a two-run homer, the second was a grand slam.
The junior was 4-for-5 with seven RBI.
Fastpitch: No Mercy Rule for KingCo
The KingCo fastpitch season began with Woodinville beating Franklin 64-0, a game that brought plenty of calls for better sportsmanship.
The conference decided educating coaches on how to slow down the game was a better option than adopting a three-run mercy rule. The standard mercy rule is to call a game after five innings if a team has a 10-run lead. Many leagues have a three-inning rule if a team is ahead by 15. A meeting of league athletic directors rejected the three-inning model.
