The Hanna Golden Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Harlingen Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hanna has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 197 points over their last three contests.
Last Friday, Hanna blew past San Benito, posting a 65-37 win at home. Given Hanna's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 493rd, while San Benito is ranked 1166th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hanna's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Beto Galarza, who scored 24 points. That makes it four consecutive games in which Galarza has scored at least a third of Hanna's points. Jordan Matamoros was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with five assists and three steals.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Harlingen's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 33-32 to Weslaco. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Harlingen has scored all season.
Hanna is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 24-12 record this season. As for Harlingen, their defeat dropped their record down to 30-6.
Hanna came out on top in a nail-biter against Harlingen in their previous meeting back in January, sneaking past 48-45. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hanna since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
