Make it 12 blowout wins for the Mesquite Wildcats this season. They put the hurt on Saguaro with a sharp 62-36 victory on Tuesday. Given Mesquite's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked eighth, while Saguaro is ranked 60th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Navae Guidry was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Pippa Krieger, who scored 12 points along with two blocks.
Mesquite is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season. As for Saguaro, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-8 record this season.
Mesquite will head out on the road to square off against Arcadia at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Saguaro, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Marcos de Niza at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Marcos de Niza has now lost 13 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 1.
