It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Benjamin Buccaneers ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They secured a 61-55 W over Grandview Prep. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Drew Buchanan was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. The game was his fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Faniel, who scored 12 points along with 7 rebounds.
Several Pride players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Aeris Lawson, who scored 20 points. Lawson scored a full 36.4% of Grandview Prep's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Xavian Charles was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
The victory got Benjamin back to even at 2-2. As for Grandview Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 2-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Benjamin will take on King's Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in King's Academy's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for Grandview Prep, they will be playing at home against Spanish River at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
