The Roosevelt Roughriders will take on the Fort Morgan Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
On Friday, Roosevelt came up short against Pomona and fell 23-15. The Roughriders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Jasiah Ramirez, who threw for 157 yards and a pair of TDs.
Don't try to pin the team's loss on the defense: they kept the trenches locked down and allowed a mere 3.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Evan Hays for the heroic effort on defense: he. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for Roosevelt; they were averaging 6.2yards per carry per game earlier this season, but in their last three matchups they've fallen to only 4.7 per game.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fort Morgan). They really took it to Mountain View for the full four quarters, racking up a 42-0 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what the Mustangs needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Roosevelt better keep an eye on Ben Fritzler. He was instrumental in Fort Morgan's win, rushing for 127 yards and two scores on only 13 carries. Those 127 rushing yards gave Fritzler a new career-high. Jj Marquez was another key passer, throwing for 136 yards and one touchdown on only ten passes.
Fort Morgan's win ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-4. As for Roosevelt, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Roosevelt has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 170 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Fort Morgan struggles in that department as they've been averaging 148 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything went Roosevelt's way against Fort Morgan in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as Roosevelt made off with a 21-0 victory. Will the Roughriders repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
