2A/1A Conference 6 recap September 10, 2013
Ashe County moved up to 300 from 343 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A/1A Conference 6. The Huskies climbed the ranks as a result of beating R.J. Reynolds 23-12.
Starmount fell to South Iredell 38-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Will Simpson ran for 45 yards in the loss.
Simpson provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Starmount fell to the Vikings.
Simpson was the best running back in the league this week. Joe Walker also contributed to the rushing game with 22 yards on the ground.
Ken Kelly was the best receiver in the league this week as Scott Johnson's team lost to South Iredell.
Leading 2A/1A Conference 6 in both passing and receiving yards, Elkin's Josh Strickland and Dakota King have proven to be a lethal combination. Strickland has thrown for 349 yards this season, while King has 5 catches for 138 yards. The Rams' Simpson leads the league in rushing yards with 119.
Ashe County made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 10,218 from 11,910. The improvement came about via a 23-12 victory over the Demons last week.
