Natalia is on a five-game streak of home wins, while Hondo is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Natalia Mustangs will host the Hondo Owls at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. Natalia is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Natalia's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Bandera with a sharp 10-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won seven games by seven runs or more so far this season.
The result came thanks to Arabella Gallegos's shutout, as she gave up just three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Natalia got a massive performance out of Kira Jimenez, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Yahdi Lujan was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Jimenez wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Natalia kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Hondo had just enough and edged out Comfort 4-3 on Friday.
Rebecca Rubio spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ainsley Bohlen, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Xevi Hernandez, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Natalia is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-3-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. Hondo's victory ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 6-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Natalia has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Hondo struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Natalia came up short against Hondo when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 15-10. Can Natalia avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
