3A Metro - East recap Oct. 30, 2012
Elizabeth extended the longest winning streak in 3A Metro - East this week by beating Skyview, 48-7. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.
The Wolverines' dynamic duo of George Lara and David Birones proved tough for Elizabeth to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Lara threw for 102 yards and one touchdown and Birones had 88 yards receiving. Jorge Barajas helped Skyview's passing attack out by catching two balls for 13 yards.
Cody Bowen was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 104 yards on 22 carries as Weld Central lost to the Cardinals. Carson DeGroot also contributed to the rushing game with 38 yards on the ground.
Vista PEAK Prep's Adam Puehler and DJ Ortiz have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Puehler has thrown for 1038 yards this season, while Ortiz, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 33 catches for 435 yards. Greg Pearson from Englewood leads the league in rushing with 1037 yards.
A big matchup in 3A Metro - East this week will be when Elizabeth takes on the Rebels. At the moment, the Cardinals are in second, while Weld Central is in third.
Elizabeth led the league in scoring this week after putting up 48 points on Bill Nelson's team.
