After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Whitman-Hanson Regional, the Key West Conchs were happy to have found some success on Thursday. They walked away with a 68-57 win over Marathon. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Key West's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from James Osborne, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Osborne has scored at least 25% of Key West's points. DeMarcus Deroche was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 17 rebounds.
Despite the loss, Marathon still got an impressive performance from ADRIAN CRUZ, who scored 19 points. CRUZ scored a full 33.3% of Marathon's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of DAESHAWN HOLMES, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds and four blocks.
Even though they lost, Marathon were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Key West only pulled down 29 offensive rebounds.
Key West now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Marathon, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season.
Key West will head out on the road to face off against Somerset Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Marathon won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Goleman at 5:00 p.m. on January 5th.
