The Valley View Eagles were the 64-52 winner over the Orange Vista Coyotes when they last played one another on January 3rd, but their luck changed this time around. Valley View took a 71-55 bruising from Orange Vista on Friday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Valley View's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Charles Knight, who scored 19 points, and Tyresse Lynch who scored 12 points along with two steals and two blocks. That was a full 34.5% of Valley View's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Maurice Lynch, who scored six points along with seven assists and five rebounds.
Orange Vista's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Henry Washington led the charge by scoring 22 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Washington has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Tommy Smith was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with five assists.
Valley View's loss dropped their record down to 13-11. As for Orange Vista, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-10.
Valley View will be playing at home against Hemet at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Orange Vista, they will head out on the road to face off against Temescal Canyon at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
