Basketball Recap: Pike Valley Drops Season-High Score on Peabody-Burns

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pike Valley). They rang in the new year with a 66-57 win over the Peabody-Burns Warriors on Friday. With that victory, the Panthers brought their scoring average up to 51.1 points per game.

Pike Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Andrew Cooper, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. With that strong performance, Cooper is now averaging an impressive 15.9 points per game. Another player making a difference was Ezra Benne, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 17 points and eight rebounds.

Pike Valley was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Despite the loss, Peabody-Burns had strong showings from Jameson Miles, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 boards, and Aiden Hurst, who posted 16 points and eight boards. Miles' evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dalton Philpott, who put up eight points and three steals.

Pike Valley has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 3-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.0 points per game. As for Peabody-Burns, their defeat was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-4.

Pike Valley and Peabody-Burns could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings. Pike Valley (ranked 269th) will meet Lakeside (ranked 71st) at 7:00 p.m. on January 10th. Meanwhile, Peabody-Burns (ranked 293rd) will meet Little River (ranked 109th) at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
