Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lawton). Everything went their way against the Southeast Spartans on Monday as they made off with an 18-5 win. The victory was some much needed relief for the Wolverines as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.
Adrian Garrison made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted over his last two matchups. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Lawton let Nathan Hawzipta and Corbyn Swift run wild. Hawzipta scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances, while Swift scored four runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-5. Those three stolen bases gave Hawzipta a new career-high. Ivan 'Max' Thomasian was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases.
Lawton's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-10 and their overall record up to 3-20. As for Southeast, their loss was their seventh straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-13.
