Billings Senior and Billings West are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2022, but likely not for long. The Broncs will head out to square off against the Golden Bears at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Billings Senior had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Great Falls on Saturday. The Broncs put the hurt on the Bison with a sharp 15-2 win. The Broncs haven't had any issues with the Bison recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Riley Tryan spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Madi Ban, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Octavia Meyer was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
Billings Senior was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .345 or higher in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Billings West got the win against Russell on Saturday by a conclusive 12-4.
Billings West also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Tatum Bush gave up four earned runs on eight hits and racked up 15 Ks.
On the hitting side, Ryane Viker was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Mielle Kavran also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Billings Senior's win was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games. As for Billings West, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Billings Senior hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Billings West struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Billings Senior beat Billings West 6-2 in their previous matchup two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Broncs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
