Sparkman and Hazel Green are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The Senators will be playing at home against the Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Sparkman took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 17-5 margin over Westminster Christian Academy. The Senators not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 7th (when they won 16-0).
Sparkman let Jourdyn Parker and Maggie VanDewynckel run wild. Parker went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while VanDewynckel went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs Parker has posted over her last 11 contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Chaia Betts, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Sparkman was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .519. They are 12-3 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Hazel Green earned a 13-10 victory over Madison County on Wednesday. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Khloe Hunter and Bella Jackson did most of the damage at the plate: Hunter went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Jackson got on base in three of her five plate appearances with five runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Kendal Christian was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two doubles.
Sparkman's victory bumped their record up to 20-16. As for Hazel Green, their win bumped their record up to 25-13-1.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sparkman hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .349. However, it's not like Hazel Green struggles in that department as they've averaged .381. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Sparkman was able to grind out a solid victory over Hazel Green when the teams last played back in March, winning 13-8. Do the Senators have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
