Baseball Recap: Rutherford Wins Going Away Against Union City

Rutherford gave up the first runs on Saturday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victors by a 13-5 margin over the Union City Soaring Eagles. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by eight runs or more this season.

Myles Balchan and Troy Waddell did most of the damage at the plate: Balchan got on base in four of his six plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Waddell went 3-for-4 with three runs. Those three runs gave Waddell a new career-high. Jack Mauro was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Rutherford is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. As for Union City, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-4.

Coming up, Rutherford will venture away from home to face off against Harrison on Monday. As for Union City, they will welcome Bayonne at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Soaring Eagles 3.8, the Bees 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
