The Dr. Joaquin Garcia Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Calvary Christian Academy, falling 52-24. Dr. Joaquin Garcia was down 49-10 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
They got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of
Tahia Ayesh and
Ava Dalbow, who each put up six points.
Calvary Christian Academy found their leader in underclassman Taryn Wakefield, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Wakefield has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Camryn Kanell, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.
Dr. Joaquin Garcia dropped their record down to 5-12 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 16.3 points per game. As for Calvary Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-14 record this season.
Dr. Joaquin Garcia is on the road again on Monday and plays Suncoast at 5:00 p.m. on February 5th. As for Calvary Christian Academy, they will take on American Heritage at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Calvary Christian Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Friday.
