AAA District 12 recap September 10, 2013
Hillsboro was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to third in AAA District 12. The Burros vanquished Hillwood 21-8 earlier in the week.
McGavock moved up to 133 from 181 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Raiders climbed the ranks as a result of besting Glencliff 35-0.
Justin Bowler was the best wideout in the league this week as McGavock beat the Colts. Bowler tallied 3 receptions for 60 yards. Chris Claybrooks helped McGavock's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 25 yards.
Dustin McAbee was the most successful running back in AAA District 12 this week. He ran for 36 yards on 6 carries as Jay Gore's team bested Glencliff. Demontez Carlton also contributed to the rushing game with 32 yards on the ground.
Jonathan Young made the biggest impact on defense this week as Hillsboro bested the Hilltoppers. The 6-foot-1 junior.
Michael Hughes put up the best numbers through the air as Craig Clayton's team defeated Hillwood. He finished with 6 completions for 165 yards and 2 touchdowns. Hughes' favorite target this week was Jay King, who caught 2 passes for 62 yards.
The Burros' Hughes and King have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Hughes has thrown for 542 yards this season, while King has 7 catches for 192 yards. McAbee from the Raiders leads the league in rushing with 99 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Overton takes on Hillsboro. The Bobcats are in first place, while the Burros are in third place.
McGavock took down the Colts 35-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. McAbee threw for 74 yards during the win.
