Softball Recap: Germantown Wins Going Away Against Florence

While Germantown put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Florence. The Mavericks blew past the Eagles 10-0. The result was nothing new for the Mavericks, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.

Germantown got a great performance from Mackenzie Donnell as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Donnell has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Presley Merkich, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Maddie Self was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.

Germantown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Germantown has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Florence, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-7.

Coming up, Germantown is taking a road trip to square off against Lewisburg at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Mavericks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. Florence does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
