Akron took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 50-6 victory over the Calhan Bulldogs. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 30-6.
Akron found their leader in sophomore Kolten Randel, who rushed for 87 yards and two scores on only eight carries, and also threw for 205 yards and one touchdown while completing 77.8% of his passes. Randel's longest rush was for an impressive 60 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Jace Curtis was another key player, gaining 91 total yards and two touchdowns.
One reason for the win was Akron's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Leading the way was Mason Porteus with two.
