South Point is 0-10 against Ashbrook since January of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The South Point Red Raiders will be home for the holidays to greet the Ashbrook Greenwave at 6:00 p.m. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Last Tuesday, South Point came up short against Fort Mill and fell 55-45. While losing is never fun, South Point can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 210th in North Carolina, while Fort Mill is ranked 33rd in South Carolina).
South Point's defeat came about despite a quality game from Amya Graham, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 14 rebounds. Graham scored a full 51.1% of South Point's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren French, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 65-10, which was the final score in Ashbrook's tilt against East Lincoln on Tuesday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Ashbrook has scored all season.
South Point now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Ashbrook, they now also have a losing record at 2-3.
South Point and Ashbrook were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in February, but South Point came up empty-handed after a 52-51 defeat. Thankfully for South Point, Madison Cole (who scored 25 points along with eight rebounds and three steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
