After two games on the road, Nettleton is heading back home. They will take on The East Webster Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Mississippi (Nettleton is ranked 73rd, while East Webster is ranked 75th).
Last Friday, Nettleton ended up a good deal behind Choctaw County and lost 39-20.
Despite the defeat, Nettleton had strong showings from Brayden Hooks, who gained 89 total yards and two touchdowns, and Braylen Williams, who rushed for 83 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, East Webster put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past Mooreville 42-14 at home. 42 seems to be a good number for East Webster as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
It was another big night for Briceton Johnson, who rushed for 97 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of R T Moye, who rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Mooreville to a paltry 188 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to East Webster's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Montavis Moore and his two sacks.
Nettleton's loss dropped their record down to 6-2. As for East Webster, the win was the third in a row for they, bringing their record for this year to 7-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's match: Nettleton has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 176.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like East Webster struggles in that department as they've been even better at 239.3 per game. It's looking like Thursday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Nettleton suffered a grim 28-7 defeat to East Webster in their previous matchup back in September of 2014. Thankfully for Nettleton, Deangelo Liggins (who rushed for 132 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.3 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
