Notre Dame lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Red Bank, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's contest. Everything went Notre Dame's way against Red Bank on Monday as Notre Dame made off with a 14-6 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Fighting Irish.
Notre Dame let Scarlett Hughes and Dalana Brown run wild. Hughes scored four runs and stole Three bases. while going 4-for-4, while Brown scored four runs and stole Six bases. while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariamne Llamas, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, South Pittsburg suffered their closest loss since April 30, 2024 on Monday. They fell just short of Girls Prep by a score of 3-1. The loss was the Pirates' first of the season.
Kaylee Kilgore was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
Kilgore wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Chelsea Mayfield, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
South Pittsburg's defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Notre Dame, they now also have a winning record of 2-1.
South Pittsburg's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Notre Dame hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .400. It's a different story for South Pittsburg, though, as they've only averaged .213. Will they be able to contain Notre Dame's hitters?
