The John Marshall Monarchs are taking a road trip to face off against the Jefferson Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
John Marshall's last matchup with Morgantown could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's match on Tuesday. The Monarchs came up short against the Mohigans, falling 16-1. The Monarchs haven't had much luck with the Mohigans recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Meanwhile, Jefferson strolled into their game on Wednesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They put the hurt on Spring Mills with a sharp 12-4 win. The Cougars' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Becca Munslow was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. She also brought in an RBI, marking her first of the season.
In other batting news, Jefferson got a massive performance out of Jersey Rummel, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one triple. That's the most doubles Rummel has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Chloe Cowan, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.
Jefferson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Spring Mills only managed three hits.
Jefferson's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-0. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for John Marshall, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.
John Marshall beat Jefferson 9-6 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Monarchs repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
