The Frankton Eagles will venture away from home to take on the Mt. Vernon Marauders at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Frankton's hitters haven't had much luck over their past three matchups, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Monday, Frankton needed a bit of extra time to put away Shenandoah. They had just enough and edged out the Raiders 2-1. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now won six in a row.
Paige Parker spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up ten Ks.
At the plate, Frankton saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zoey Coppess, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that Coppess has snagged this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mt. Vernon). They came out on top against New Castle by a score of 8-5 on Monday.
The team relied heavily on Emma Jenkins, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
Frankton's victory was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 9.3 runs this season. As for Mt. Vernon, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.
Mt. Vernon's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Frankton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Mt. Vernon, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will Frankton keep running through batters, or will the Marauders buck the trend?
Everything went Frankton's way against Mt. Vernon when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Frankton made off with a 13-3 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
