Baseball Game Preview: Lanesville Eagles vs. Heritage Hills Patriots

The Lanesville Eagles will venture away from home to take on the Heritage Hills Patriots at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Lanesville is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on New Washington with a sharp 11-3 win on Thursday.

Nolyn Hall was excellent, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ian Crawford, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Heritage Hills had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They came out on top against the Rangers by a score of 9-5.

Andersen Smith and Peyton Gray were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Smith tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Gray struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Smith has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Smith went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Gray got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Heritage Hills let Luke Krzykowski and Micah Toler run wild. Krzykowski went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Toler went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI and one triple.

Heritage Hills pushed their record up to 14-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Lanesville, their record now sits at 4-7.

Lanesville might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Heritage Hills in their previous matchup back in May of 2023. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
