Palo Alto is 1-9 against Cupertino since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. Palo Alto will host Cupertino at 4:00 p.m. Palo Alto is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Palo Alto easily dispatched Monta Vista on Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Palo Alto fell just short of Gunn by a score of 8-6 on Monday.
Kendall Butler and Kensie Pao stepped up to the plate in a big way. Butler scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Pao scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most stolen bases Butler has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kaitlin Ye, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Palo Alto kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Cupertino can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They put the hurt on Fremont with a sharp 14-6 victory. Considering the Pioneers have won three matchups by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Jasmyne Llanos made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. Llanos was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Shelby Apostolo, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and two runs. Dayoung Jung was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.
Palo Alto's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Cupertino, their win bumped their record up to 3-5.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Palo Alto hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .321. However, it's not like Cupertino struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Palo Alto might still be hurting after the 18-5 defeat they got from Cupertino in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will Palo Alto have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
