Shiprock is 1-9 against Bloomfield since June of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Chieftains will head out on the road to challenge the Bobcats at 4:00 p.m. Shiprock has given up an average of 11.6 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Shiprock fell victim to Aztec and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 23-0 to the Tigers.
Shiprock saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Keeya Johnson, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Bloomfield had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Bengals. Considering the Bobcats have won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Johnny Yates and Gavin Pecotte were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Yates struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Meanwhile, Pecotte pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Those ten strikeouts gave Yates a new career-high. At bat, Yates went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles, while Pecotte went 2-for-5 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Elias Munoz was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Marcus Garcia was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Bloomfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in four consecutive games.
Shiprock's loss dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Bloomfield, their record now sits at 11-7.
Shiprock might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from Bloomfield in their previous meeting on Thursday. Can the Chieftains avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
