Softball Recap: Deep Creek Has No Trouble Against Lakeland

Deep Creek won the last time they faced Lakeland and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Hornets blew past the Cavaliers 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won seven matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Larah Fray spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lilly B was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Hailey Lack also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Deep Creek hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in eight consecutive contests.

Deep Creek is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Lakeland, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.

The Hornets are on a three-game streak of home wins, the Hawks a three-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind. Meanwhile, Lakeland is set to challenge their familiar foe Nansemond River at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
