Mesquite hasn't had much luck against Saguaro recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Mesquite will welcome Saguaro at 4:00 p.m. Mesquite has given up an average of 7 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Mesquite came up short against Eastmark last Friday, falling 16-7.
Savannah Magallanez was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Jasmine Jaramillo, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Saguaro made easy work of ALA - Gilbert North on Monday and carried off a 16-3 victory.
Saguaro got a massive performance out of Hailey Holliday, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave Holliday a new career-high. Alexa Simpson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double.
Saguaro was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .643. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .316 or higher in nine consecutive matches.
Saguaro is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. Mesquite now has a losing record of 4-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Mesquite has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Saguaro struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Mesquite might still be hurting after the 9-0 defeat they got from Saguaro in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Mesquite avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
