Faith Baptist will face off against the Blue Ridge Jays at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Faith Baptist came out on top against Grove Christian School last Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fifth inning. Faith Baptist walked away with an 8-3 victory over Grove Christian School.
Meanwhile, Blue Ridge entered their tilt with Southwest Virginia Academy on Monday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They never let the Conquerors get on the board and left with a 14-0 win. Considering the Jays have won six contests by more than nine runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Lochlan 'Bear' Paul made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI. Those two triples gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Paul Berry looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
Back at the plate, Dominic Paul was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI. Those five stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Josh Craig, who went 3-for-4 with five stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Blue Ridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .480. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Blue Ridge's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-5. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. As for Faith Baptist, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Faith Baptist might still be hurting after the 19-1 loss they got from Blue Ridge in their previous meeting on April 5th. Can Faith Baptist avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
