Baseball Recap: Purvis Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Purvis walked away with it. They beat the Greene County Wildcats on Saturday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 13-6. Considering the Tornadoes have won 18 contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

JoJo Parker and Jacob Parker made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Parker struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Jacob pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. JoJo has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. At the plate, Parker went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base, while Jacob fired off two home runs, two stolen bases, and three runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Those two home runs gave Jacob a new career-high.

In other batting news, Banks Teater was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyce Shepherd, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

Purvis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greene County only posted an OBP of .303.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Purvis, bringing their record up to 23-6. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Greene County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 18-13.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Purvis beat the Wildcats by a score of 11-1 on Monday.
