Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton is 0-4 against Goreville since December of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton will square off against the Goreville Blackcats at 6:00 p.m. Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton is no doubt hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
With a playoff game on the line, Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton rose to the challenge on Saturday. They secured a 48-44 W over the Appleknockers. The victory was just what Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton needed coming off of a 63-21 defeat in their prior game.
Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Brylee Martin out in front who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. It was the first time this season that Martin pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Shelby Grove, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Goreville put the finishing touches on their 18th blowout victory of the season last Friday. They blew past Century 67-39 on the road. Winning may never get old, but Goreville sure is getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
It was another big night for Abby Compton, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Goreville's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Breanna Suits, who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton's win bumped their record up to 7-24. As for Goreville, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 28-3 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 26.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Goreville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton took a serious blow against Goreville when the teams last played back in December of 2022, falling 63-15. Thankfully for Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton, Macie Tosh (who scored 21 points along with five steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
