For the first time this season, Fayetteville-Perry will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They are taking a road trip to take on the Eastern Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Fayetteville-Perry lost 8-2 to Williamsburg on Saturday. The Rockets haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Kylee Burchett made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
While Eastern didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-11), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against Georgetown on Thursday as Eastern made off with a 14-4 victory. The win continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the G-Men: they've now won three in a row.
Allie Grooms made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maddi Simpson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Breeanna Jimison was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Eastern kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Georgetown only managed six hits.
Eastern pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Fayetteville-Perry, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
Fayetteville-Perry came out on top in a nail-biter against Eastern when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Fayetteville-Perry since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
