The Wellsville Eagles will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Perry-Lecompton Kaws at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Wellsville's favor is that they have now posted big point totals every time they've taken the field this season.
Wellsville stacked a seventh blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They breezed by Baldwin at home to the tune of 42-0. That's two games straight that Wellsville has won by exactly 42 points.
Wellsville got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was William Dorsey out in front who threw for 194 yards and four touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Kenyon Gillins, who rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown.
Another reason for the win was Wellsville's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Leading the way was Wyatt Brungardt and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Perry-Lecompton came up short against Royal Valley on Friday and fell 23-14. Perry-Lecompton has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Perry-Lecompton had strong showings from Bronzen Rush, who rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries, and Tristan Gorden, who rushed for 76 yards and a touchdown. Rush's longest rush was for an incredible 89 yards.
Wellsville's victory was their eighth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-8 Osawatomie and 1-7 Anderson County (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 39.1% over those games). As for Perry-Lecompton, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.
Wellsville was dealt a bruising 49-6 loss at the hands of Perry-Lecompton in their previous meeting back in September of 2019. Can Wellsville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
